Mizoram Launches GBV Solve Project to Tackle Violence Against Women

 

Context:

  • The Government of Mizoram has launched the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Solve Project to address the alarming rise in violence against women and to promote gender equality in the state. The initiative was inaugurated in Aizawl by Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Minister Lalrinpuii , marking a major step toward women’s safety, empowerment, and social justice.

 


Rising Gender-Based Violence in Mizoram

  • Reported cases of violence against women in Mizoram have increased sharply from 3,094 (2022–23) to 12,750 (by February 2025) .

  • Minister Lalrinpuii called the surge “deeply concerning” and urged collective community action.

  • She emphasised that empowering women through education and skills is essential for building safer and stronger societies.


About the GBV Solve Project

  • Collaborating Agencies: A joint initiative by Aparajita and J-PAL South Asia , implemented in Mizoram by the Mission Foundation Movement (MFM) .

  • Objective: To reduce violence against women and children, raise awareness on gender equality, and promote preventive community-based measures.

  • Approach: Combines counselling, gender education, livelihood training, and awareness campaigns at grassroots levels.

  • The project aims to create a safer, inclusive environment for women and girls while integrating local community participation.
