- Project: Development of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in Civil sector.
- Financial Outlay in total: Rs5,862.55 crore in 9 years (2026-27).
- Capital Expenditure: Rs2,585.52 crore
- Operation expenditure: Rs3277.03 crore.
2. Important Characteristic: Inclusion of Pre-Primary.
These new KVs will have balvatikas - 3-year-old pre-primary system, which is a requirement of the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.
3. Distribution & Coverage
- Coverage: 17 States and Union Territories.
- Focus Areas:
- 20 in districts where there are no KVs.
- 14 in Aspirational Districts.
- 4 districts in Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
- 5 in North-Eastern and Hilly regions.
- Sponsorship 7 the Ministry of Home Affairs; 50 State/UT authorities.
4. Impact & Expansion
- Direct Beneficiaries: 86,640 students.
- Employment: Will provide 4,617 direct employment opportunities, including those in the construction industry and other related businesses.
- Recent Expansion: This builds on the 85 new KVs approved in December 2024, which will provide a balanced coverage of the pan-India coverage.
5. Context & Quality Benchmark
- Existing Network: 1,288 operational KVs (in 3 foreign locations in Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran) with reach to 13.62 lakh students (as of June 2025).
- Quality Indicator: 913 KVs are currently PM Shri Schools under NEP 2020, which promotes a sense of inclusiveness, integration, and quality education, particularly in the under-served areas.
