Internship Policy to Nurture Sports Professionals
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has introduced a Comprehensive Internship Policy aimed at creating a structured and large-scale platform for nurturing young talent while strengthening India’s sports ecosystem. The initiative seeks to provide meaningful exposure to sports governance, administration and allied professional domains , thereby building a future-ready talent pipeline aligned with India’s long-term sporting ambitions.
Structured Opportunities Across Sports Institutions
Under the policy, 452 internships will be offered annually across MYAS and its autonomous bodies, including the Sports Authority of India (SAI) , the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) . The programme targets college and university students , enabling them to gain hands-on experience in sports administration, governance, sports science, anti-doping mechanisms, event management and athlete support services.
Youth Empowerment and Governance Reforms
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya stated that empowering young minds is central to transforming India’s sports ecosystem. He emphasised that modern sports development requires skilled professionals, transparent institutions and scientific support systems. The internship programme, he noted, will allow youth to actively participate in nation-building through sports while acquiring practical and policy-level experience.
Alignment with National Sports Vision
The internship policy is aligned with the National Sports Policy and Khelo Bharat Niti 2025 , focusing on capacity building and professionalisation of sports administration. Interns will be exposed to flagship initiatives such as Khelo India , Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and the Target Asian Games Group (TAGG) . Practical training will take place at SAI stadia, regional centres and national centres of excellence .
Domains, Selection and Long-Term Impact
The programme spans over 20 functional domains , including sports management, sports science, legal affairs, IT systems, media and communications, international sports governance and anti-doping research. Selection will be conducted through two annual recruitment cycles via a centralised online portal , ensuring transparency and merit-based access. The initiative aims to promote clean sport, scientific advancement and transparent governance while creating a skilled workforce to support India’s expanding sports infrastructure and global sporting presence.
