Google to Launch Dual-Model AI Smart Glasses in 2026
Google has officially confirmed that its first AI-powered smart glasses will debut in 2026 , marking a major leap in the company’s extended reality (XR) strategy. Announced during The Android Show: XR Edition , the glasses aim to deliver hands-free intelligence, real-time assistance and fashionable everyday usability.
Two Distinct Models Target Different Use Cases
Google is building two versions of the glasses in collaboration with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker.
The first model is a screen-free assistant , equipped with cameras, microphones and directional speakers that allow users to interact naturally with Gemini AI , capture moments and receive contextual guidance.
The second model features an in-lens display , enabling private visual overlays such as turn-by-turn navigation, live captions and real-time translation—offering a more immersive augmented experience.
Designed for Seamless Daily Integration
The glasses are intended for constant wear, helping users perform tasks without reaching for a phone. Real-time translation, object recognition, and AI memory recall aim to enhance both personal productivity and communication. The emphasis on comfort and style reflects Google's push to make wearable AI broadly acceptable.
Strengthening the Android XR Platform
The launch expands the rapidly growing Android XR ecosystem , which already supports the Samsung Galaxy XR headset and upcoming devices like XREAL’s Project Aura. Google has also released Developer Preview 3 of the Android XR SDK , enabling early creation of XR applications. Developers such as Uber and GetYourGuide are testing new augmented reality services ahead of commercial rollout.
