RBI Installs New Continuous Cheque Clearing System

1. System Transition/Implementation:

  • Special CTS clearing to be made on 3 rd October 2025 to help in transition.
  • The start of the new continuous clearing mechanism will be on 4th October 2025.
  • Transition as authorized by Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

2. Operational Changes:

  • Real time processing:cheques that are deposited between 10 AM- 4 PM will be scanned and forwarded to be cleared immediately.
  • Eradicates the old-fashioned end of day batch processing.
  • Special session timings :
    • Presentation Session: 11:00 AM - 03:00 PM
    • Return Session: 05:00 PM - 08:00 PM

3. Technical Requirements:

  • Banks have to make use of clearing type 99 with certain session codes.
  • Session "21" and returns in session "22" respectively.
  • Bank which had to keep sufficient balances in settlement accounts.

4. Security/ Compliance:

  • NPCI Positive Pay System (PPS) towards fraud prevention.
  • Mandatory for cheques Rs50,000
  • Possibly mandatory on cheques Rs5,00,000
  • Image preservation: Banks should present physical cheques that are to be kept during 10 years.

5. Infrastructure: This field involves examining the common infrastructural elements of the computer.<|human|>Infrastructure: This area deals with the study of the shared infrastructural components of the computer.

  • Three consolidated grids, Chennai, Mumbai, and New Delhi.
  • Three types of images picked up on each cheque:
    • Front Gray Scale
    • Front Black & White
    • Back Black & White
  • Suggestion to apply color ink image-friendly in order to be clear.
