Assam Introduces ‘Prerona’ Monthly Allowance Scheme for Class 10 Students
The Government of Assam has rolled out a student-focused initiative titled ‘Prerona Scheme’ , aimed at supporting Class 10 students during the crucial months leading up to their board examinations. The scheme provides financial assistance to help students reduce academic stress, secure essential study materials, and remain focused on exam preparation without financial hindrances.
Monthly Financial Assistance for Learners
Under the Prerona Scheme, each Class 10 student will receive ₹300 per month until their board examinations conclude. The assistance can be utilised for purchasing books, stationery, mock test papers, or to meet basic nutritional needs that contribute to concentration and overall academic performance. The initiative is positioned as a relief mechanism to prevent financial constraints from disrupting study routines.
Scheme Coverage and Eligibility
The benefit is open to all students enrolled for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations under the Assam State School Education Board. Additionally, it includes Class 10 students from CBSE-affiliated Adarsha Vidyalayas who are residents of Assam. With no income-based filtering, the scheme ensures universal coverage , providing equal support to all eligible candidates across the state.
Strengthening Education and Reducing Dropouts
The scheme also targets deep-rooted issues such as educational inequality and dropouts linked to economic hardship. The government anticipates that consistent monthly support will improve exam readiness, decrease dropout tendencies and enhance overall participation in government and provincialised schools. The initiative is expected to build confidence among young learners by assuring financial backing during one of the most decisive years of their schooling.
