New Chennaib Mangaluru Coast-to-Coast Parcel Express Boosts Regional Logistics

Southern Railway Introduces India’s First Coast-to-Coast Parcel Express

Southern Railway has unveiled India’s first coast-to-coast parcel express train , connecting Royapuram in Chennai with Mangaluru Central. This new service marks a major milestone in freight modernisation, offering businesses a dependable, time-tabled logistics corridor spanning Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It aims to provide manufacturers, traders and supply-chain operators with faster, predictable parcel movement across key commercial centres.

Launch Schedule and Route Highlights

The parcel express will begin operations on 12 December , departing from Mangaluru Central in the afternoon and reaching Chennai the next day. The return service leaves Royapuram on 16 December . Weekly trips will run every Friday from Mangaluru and every Tuesday from Chennai . Scheduled halts include Salem, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod—important hubs for textiles, manufacturing, agriculture and consumer goods.

Features of the Dedicated Parcel Train

The train is equipped with high-capacity parcel vans along with luggage-cum-brake vans to ensure efficient and secure transport. Each coach carries destination-specific labels , enabling organised loading and timely unloading at each halt. This structure reduces operational delays, enhances cargo management and ensures reliable turnaround times. The train’s configuration also helps decongest existing passenger services that often carry parcel traffic.

Supported commodities include perishables, textiles, electronics, industrial inputs and FMCG products. Real-time tracking and adherence to fixed schedules offer improved transparency and reliability for businesses dependent on fast regional distribution.
