The New Jersey Department of Health confirmed that the infected individual was present at Terminals B and C of Newark Liberty International Airport on December 12 . Measles spreads through airborne particles released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These particles can remain suspended in enclosed spaces for up to two hours , making airports particularly high-risk environments due to crowd density and continuous passenger movement.
Symptoms and Public Health Guidance
Officials warned that early symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes , followed by a distinctive red rash that typically appears three to five days later. The rash usually begins on the face and spreads downward across the body.
