Andhra Pradesh Retains National Leadership in Energy Efficiency
Andhra Pradesh has once again emerged as a frontrunner in sustainable development by winning the National Energy Conservation Award for the fourth consecutive year . The State secured First Prize in Group II at the National Energy Conservation Awards–2025, underlining its consistent commitment to reducing energy consumption through policy-driven and technology-enabled interventions.
Sustained Excellence at the National Level
State officials noted that winning the award four years in a row reflects institutional maturity rather than one-time achievement. Andhra Pradesh’s performance was evaluated across diverse sectors including buildings, industries, agriculture, transport, urban infrastructure, and power distribution companies. The State topped Group II with an impressive 89.25 score in the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI)–2025 , demonstrating steady year-on-year improvement.
Leadership and Coordinated Governance
The achievement has been attributed to the strategic leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar , supported by strong inter-departmental coordination. The AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) played a central role in planning, monitoring and evaluating conservation initiatives, ensuring measurable outcomes rather than symbolic compliance.
Key Policies and Ground-Level Interventions
Andhra Pradesh’s progress is anchored in reforms such as the Integrated Clean Energy Policy , Industrial Development Policy 4.0 (2024–29) , and targeted MSME and electronics policies. Energy Conservation Cells have been established in government departments, while the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) is being actively enforced. Efficiency upgrades in schools, hospitals, ITIs, municipal water pumping systems and MSME clusters have significantly reduced energy intensity.
Recognition and Way Forward
The award will be presented by the President of India on National Energy Conservation Day (December 14) in New Delhi. State officials emphasised that future efforts will focus on citizen participation, student outreach and industrial innovation to further expand energy savings.
