Chandigarh University Becomes First to Win Khelo India University Games Twice in a Row
Chandigarh University (CU) has etched its name in Indian sporting history by becoming the first university to win the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) title for two consecutive years . The achievement came at the 5th KIUG 2025 , hosted in Rajasthan , where the university topped the medal tally with a record-breaking performance, reaffirming its dominance in university-level sports.
Unprecedented Medal Performance
At KIUG 2025, Chandigarh University secured a remarkable 67 medals , comprising 42 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze . This stands as the highest gold medal count by any university in the history of the Games. The performance improved upon its KIUG 2024 showing, where CU had won 71 medals with 32 golds, highlighting not just consistency but rising excellence across editions.
Scale and Importance of KIUG 2025
The Games were conducted from 24 November to 5 December 2025 under the Sports Authority of India , in association with the Association of Indian Universities . Nearly 5,000 athletes from 222 universities participated, competing across 23 medal sports and one demonstration sport, Kho-Kho , making KIUG one of India’s largest multi-sport university platforms.
Dominance Across Sports Disciplines
CU athletes excelled in both conventional and newly added sports. The university dominated Canoeing and Kayaking , introduced for the first time, by winning 23 gold medals . Strong performances were also recorded in cycling, swimming and athletics , reflecting depth, versatility and systematic talent development.
