Four Multi-Tracking Rail Projects valued at 24634 Crore are Cabinet approved

1. Project Overvie

• There are four big Indian Railways projects that have been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs headed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

2. Project Details & Coverage

• The four projects that are approved are:

• WardhaBhusawal: 3 rd, 4 th line, 314 km (Maharashtra)
• Gondia -Dongargarh: 4 th line, 84 km (Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh)
• Vadodara -Ratlam: 3 rd and 4 th line, 259 km (Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh)
• Itarsi-Bhopal-bina: 4 th line, 237km (madhya pradesh)
• Total Network Addition: 894km of new lines in 18 districts.

3. Strategic Alignment and Economic Impact.

• These projects are in line with PM gati Shakti National master plan which is in multi-modal connectivity.
• Freight Capacity: Will increase the capacity to 78 Million tonne per annum (MTPA) to offer transport of coal, cement, containers, food grains, and steel.
• Connectivity: Will enhance connectivity of around 3633 villages and a population of more than 85 lakh people, comprising two Aspirational Districts Vidisha and Rajnandgaon.

4. Environmental and Tourism Advantages.

• Environmental Impact: It is projected that the projects will lead to a reduction in oil imports of 28 crore litres and a decrease in CO 2 to 139 crore kg of CO 2 per year, which is the carbon capture that 6 crore trees would have.
• Tourism Boost: Will increase transportation of major tourist and ecological attractions via rail, such as the Satpura Tiger Reserve, Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Sanchi and Nawegaon National Park.
