GRAP Stage 3 Lifted in Delhi-NCR Following Drop in AQI Levels
After weeks of strict pollution control measures, authorities have officially revoked Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR. The decision comes as the region recorded a notable improvement in particulate pollution levels, bringing relief to commuters and industries affected by the restrictions.
AQI Falls Below Severe Threshold
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced the rollback after Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) fell to 327 , which, though categorised as Very Poor , remains below the 401–450 AQI band that triggers Stage 3 interventions. GRAP—divided into four escalating stages—guides pollution responses during winter months when meteorological conditions worsen air stagnation.
Restrictions on Fuel Vehicles Eased
With the revocation of Stage 3, the temporary ban imposed on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles has been lifted. Construction and demolition activities, previously limited under the third tier, are also expected to resume under compliance guidelines. However, authorities warned that air quality remains fragile, necessitating continued implementation of Stage 1 and Stage 2 directives.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 Rules Still in Place
Even with easing of restrictions, dust suppression, mechanical sweeping, waste burning prohibition and DG-set control remain active across the NCR. Stage 2 protocols reinforce stricter monitoring for construction projects, increased parking fees to discourage private vehicle use, and emphasis on public transport to limit emissions.
