India to Support UN Resolution on Palestine Two-State Solution

India has voted in favour of a resolution of the United Nations General assembly adopting New York declaration , which urges for peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of two-state solution . The resolution had the support of 142 countries : 10 voted against and 12 abstained .

Background

The New York Declaration launched by France and co-chaired with Saudi Arabia in July 2025 calls for putting an end to violence in the Gaza and install a sovereign Palestinian state along with Israel.

Countries like Israel, US, Argentina and Hungary opposed the resolution contending that there were security issues, and the provisions may hinder face-to-face negotiations.

The resolution enhances international agreement on the two-state solution, ratchet up diplomatic pressure on Israel, and reconfirms international support for Palestinian statehood. It is hoped that it will shape future peace talks on the conflict and international engagements in the conflict.
