Haryana Sees Notable Improvement in Sex Ratio at Birth
Haryana has recorded a significant improvement in its Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB), which rose to 923 in 2025—the highest level in the past five years. The figure reflects a 13-point increase from 910 in 2024, indicating the impact of sustained administrative vigilance and strict enforcement measures aimed at curbing gender-biased practices. According to state officials, the improvement marks a reversal of last year’s dip and signals a steady recovery trend.
Birth Data and Statewide Trends
Official records show that Haryana registered a total of 5,19,691 births in 2025. Of these, 2,70,281 were male births and 2,49,410 were female births. The resulting SRB of 923 females per 1,000 males surpassed the state’s performance between 2020 and 2024, underscoring measurable progress in addressing long-standing demographic concerns.
District-Level Performance
At the district level, Panchkula emerged as the top performer with an SRB of 971, rising sharply from 915 in 2024. Fatehabad (961) and Panipat (951) also recorded strong outcomes. Several districts—Ambala, Bhiwani, Hisar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Sirsa, and Yamunanagar—remained above the state average. In contrast, Gurugram showed only a marginal improvement to 901, while Sonipat saw a decline to 894, highlighting uneven progress across regions.
Enforcement and Policy Push
Authorities attributed the gains to rigorous action under the PC-PNDT and MTP laws. In 2025, enforcement agencies conducted 154 raids, sealed 41 chemist shops, shut down 395 medical termination of pregnancy centres, registered 114 FIRs, and filed 83 chargesheets. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini noted that Haryana’s SRB stood at just 871 in 2014. Following the launch of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign by Narendra Modi from Panipat in 2015, the state intensified oversight. Weekly reviews by a health department task force in 2025 further strengthened compliance.
