NLC India Secures Approval for 110MW Solar Project in Uttar Pradesh

NCRTC–NLCIL Solar Initiative Boosts Clean Energy for Urban Transport

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) , a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Union Ministry of Coal , has moved a step forward in expanding its renewable energy footprint with the approval of a 110MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic project in Uttar Pradesh. The company has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation Limited (NCRTC) for the development of the project.

Project Framework and Institutional Collaboration
The solar project will be set up in Uttar Pradesh through an institutional arrangement involving NCRTC, which is a joint venture of the Government of India and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh . The initiative reflects coordinated inter-governmental efforts to promote clean energy solutions alongside large-scale infrastructure development in the National Capital Region and surrounding states.

Implementation and Operational Responsibility
NCRTC will implement the project through a dedicated joint venture company . The JV will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of the plant, including installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance . Electricity generated from the solar plant will primarily be used to meet NCRTC’s energy needs, especially for powering its regional rapid transit system (RRTS) and related transport infrastructure.

Timeline and Clean Energy Goals
According to project plans, the solar plant is expected to be completed within 24 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) . The project aligns with NCRTC’s strategy to integrate renewable energy into mass transit operations, thereby lowering carbon emissions and reducing reliance on conventional power sources.

Broader Significance
For NLCIL, the project strengthens its growing renewable energy portfolio and reinforces its transition beyond conventional coal-based power. At the national level, the initiative supports India’s clean energy targets and highlights the increasing role of public sector enterprises in delivering sustainable power solutions for urban transport and infrastructure.
