India’s Longest Cantilever Glass Skywalk Opens in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam has unveiled a spectacular new tourism landmark with the inauguration of India’s longest cantilever glass skywalk at Kailasagiri hilltop park. Perched at an elevation of about 862 feet , the skywalk offers visitors breathtaking aerial views of rolling hills, lush cityscapes and the Bay of Bengal’s vast shoreline—turning it into one of the city’s most striking attractions.
Inauguration Marks a Tourism Milestone
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) opened the structure in the presence of senior officials and public representatives. Built in just eight months, the skywalk forms part of a larger urban tourism strategy aimed at enhancing visitor engagement and diversifying attractions around Kailasagiri.
Engineering Excellence and Safety Protocols
The cantilevered structure is composed of high-strength toughened glass , engineered to handle high-impact loads and withstand cyclone-level wind speeds up to 250 km/h . Although capable of supporting over 100 people simultaneously, authorities have restricted access to 40 visitors at a time to maintain safety, comfort and structural discipline.
Design Tailored for Panoramic Views
Engineers conducted extensive terrain and viewing-angle studies before finalising the skywalk’s positioning. The transparent platform creates a thrilling illusion of walking in mid-air, giving visitors unparalleled perspectives of both the coastline and the city skyline. The strategic location ensures the attraction remains visually dramatic without compromising safety.
