Indigenous ASW Craft Anjadip Boosts India’s Coastal Defence Capability
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has strengthened India’s maritime preparedness by delivering its fifth warship to the Indian Navy in 2025 , underscoring the shipyard’s growing role in indigenous defence production. The latest delivery highlights sustained execution capability and aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in naval shipbuilding.
ASW SWC Anjadip Joins the Fleet
The Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) “Anjadip” was handed over to the Indian Navy at Chennai Port . It is the third vessel in a planned series of eight ASW shallow water crafts. Designed and built entirely in India by GRSE, Anjadip is the 115th warship constructed by the shipyard and the 77th delivered to the Indian Navy . The vessel has been accepted under the Eastern Naval Command .
Rare Milestone in Naval Shipbuilding
Prior to Anjadip , GRSE delivered four warships earlier in the year — the Advanced Guided Missile Frigate Himgiri , ASW SWCs Arnala and Androth , and the Survey Vessel (Large) Ikshak . All four are already commissioned. Delivering five complex warships in a single year is considered a rare feat among Indian shipyards and reflects enhanced industrial capacity, streamlined project management, and skilled manpower.
Indigenous Systems and Operational Role
The ASW SWC class is optimised for shallow coastal waters and is designed for sub-surface surveillance, search-and-attack missions, and coordinated anti-submarine operations with naval aircraft. Anjadip features nearly 88% indigenous content and is fitted with a 30 mm Naval Surface Gun manufactured by GRSE. The platform is equipped with modern combat management systems, lightweight torpedoes, and ASW rockets.

Future Projects and Strategic Outlook
