1. Partnership Overview
- The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Rural Development, Ministry of Rural Development.
- Purpose: The eventual goal is to popularize and introduce Bima Sakhi Yojana by LIC in the rural parts of India.
2. About Bima Sakhi Yojana
- It is a women-based program which focuses on empowering women making them have a career as LIC agents.
- The scheme offers performance based stipendiary scheme to develop financial autonomy and entrepreneurship among women.
3. Key Features of the Scheme
Stipend Structure:
- First Year: ₹7,000 per month
- Second Year: ₹6,000 per month
- Third Year: ₹5,000 per month
- (Subject to the fulfillment of certain terms and conditions)
- Advantages: Bima Sakhis enjoy all the benefits and perks of a normal LIC agent which guarantees them a long-term career.
4. Strategic Alignment
- The Bima Sakhi Yojana is coordinated with the interests of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana national rural livelihood mission (DAY-NRLM).
- The partnership is supposed to help increase the rural household incomes through women-led financial empowerment.
5. Event Context
- It signed the MoU at the Anubhuti National Conclave on Financial Inclusion, which took place between July 8-10, 2025, in Goa.
