1947—Interim Government Reshuffle With the independence of India, on 30 August 1947 , the Interim Government of India was restructured, where new ministers were inducted as part of the process of formulating the Constitution.

1965 - Indo-Pak Conflict Escalation

  • In early/late August of 1965 and encompassing 30 August , there was intensive combat between India and Pakistan, particularly in the Jammu and Kashmir areas of Akhnoor and Khemkaran.

1979 - Death of Jayaprakash Narayan

  • Jayaprakash Narayan (JP) , the great freedom fighter and leader of the Total Revolution Movement, died on 30 August 1979 . He was a leading figure in fighting against the Emergency (1975-77) and was a leading democratic voice.

  • 1905 - M. Bhaktavatsalam

  • He was an Indian National Congress politician and the last Chief Minister of Madras State (1963-1967) until it became Tamil Nadu, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, born on 30 August 1905 .

Observances

  • There is no significant national celebration on the date, but historians recall the anniversary of the death of JP (1979) as a significant episode in the history of post-independence democracy.
