World Food Day – 16 October 2025

• Theme 2025: "Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future"
• Purpose: Encourage world food security and promote awareness of hunger, particularly in times of crises.
• History: Founded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945; recognized internationally since the 20th FAO Conference held in 1979.
• Significance: Celebrated by more than 150 nations to promote hunger alleviation, poverty elimination, and sustainable agricultural systems.

World Anaesthesia Day – 16 October 2025

• Theme 2025: "Anaesthesiology in Health Emergencies"
• Purpose: To bring together the international anaesthesia community and provide a voice for advocacy and awareness.
• Significance: Commemorates W.T.G. Morton's first successful demonstration of ether as an anaesthetic, 173 years ago at Massachusetts General Hospital.
• History: First celebrated in 1903, commemorating the birth and development of anaesthesiology as a medical specialty.
