1. Event Overview
- Indian Parliamentary Delegation headed by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla are at the 68 th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC).
- Place & Time: Bridgetown, Barbados, October 5-12, 2025.
- Theme of the conference: The Commonwealth -A Global Partner, which is centered around democracy, sustainable development and digital inclusion.
2. Delegation Composition
- The delegation is among the biggest and it includes:
- Sub-Topics MPs such as Shri Harivansh (Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha) and Dr. D. Purandeswari.
- India has a federal structure which is reflected in 36 Presiding Officers and 16 Secretaries of 24 State and Union Territory Legislatures.
3. Important Involvements and the Indian Position.
- Address by Shri Om Birla: The Shri Om Birla will also address the General assembly on the commitment of India to multilateralism and democratic cooperation. He will also preside over a workshop on digital democracy, which is about legislative transparency and digital divides.
- Committee Participation:
- Shri Anurag Sharma will be the CPA Treasurer who will attend the Executive Committee meetings.
- Dr. D. Purandeswari will be an Indian representative in the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Steering Committee in the fight to create gender-sensitive policies.
- Bilateral Diplomacy: Speakers of other countries, leaders of Barbados and the Indian diaspora will be met and provided with chances to promote cultural and diplomatic relationships with Shri Birla.
4. India Showcasing and Strategic Objectives.
- The involvement of India will serve the purpose of:
- Demonstrate its parliamentary reforms, including the e-Parliament system, National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA).
- Enhance South-South collaboration, and enforce its dominance in the advancement of democratic standards.
- Promote inclusive governance and youth participation and climate-resilient policymaking.
