Adi Vaani-Tribal language empowerment AI

Beta version of Adi Vaani, a tribal language translation platform built using AI, has been launched by the Ministry of tribal Affairs of India. The roll out, held on the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations, on 12 January 2010, at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, emphasises the efforts of the government to empower tribals and preserve its language.

Purpose and Significance

Adi Vaani is an AI-driven project that aims to save tribal languages, close communication divides, and enhance education, healthcare and governance services in native languages. It makes tribes digitally literate, promotes various development, and makes the culture strong.

Growth and Cooperation.

A consortium of IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Nava Raipur and a number of State Tribal Research Institutes have developed the platform. Constructed on natural linguistic input, Adi Vaani will be about ten times cheaper than commercial options and will be improved over time with community input.

Features and Supported Languages.

  • Now promotes Santali, Bhili, Mundari and Gondi, Kui and Garo being developed.
  • Provides instant text and speech translators among Hindi, English, and tribal languages.
  • Encompasses interactive educational resources, digitised folklore and subtitled government advisories.
  • Created to both students and community leaders, to encourage cultural preservation and exchange of knowledge.

Technological and Social Impact.

Adi Vaani shows how AI can help preserve dying languages and enhance the delivery of services on last miles. It promotes tribal enterprise, supports researchers and supplements national missions such as Digital India and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. The platform will cover more than 20 lakh tribal leaders by 2047.

Access and Future Plans

The Beta is now online in a web portal and mobile applications are soon to come. It will be an innovative cheap language technology and culture preservation solution by adding more tribal languages and other high-tech features.
