The 40th Indira Marathon , one of India’s oldest and most prestigious long-distance running events, concluded in Prayagraj with exceptional performances from athletes across the country. The full marathon, covering the classic 42.195 km , attracted runners from multiple states, continuing the event’s legacy as a major fixture in India’s athletics calendar.
Men’s Race: Dominant Victory for Pradeep Singh
Uttarakhand’s Pradeep Singh Chauhan claimed the men’s title with a commanding finish, clocking an impressive time over the city circuit. Gyan Babu from Pratapgarh secured second place, while Rohit Saroj , representing Prayagraj, finished third—earning applause from the local crowd and reinforcing the city’s connection to the marathon.
Women’s Category: Renu Kumari Takes the Crown
In the women’s field, Renu Kumari of Haryana emerged champion with a strong and steady run. Maharashtra’s athletes secured the remaining podium positions: Mandan Jadhav finished second, while Jyoti Shankar claimed third, highlighting the competitive depth in the women’s category.
Route, Organisation & Event Flow
The marathon began at 6:30 am near Anand Bhawan , following the traditional course through prominent city landmarks including Swaraj Bhawan, Allahabad University, Army Red Eagle Stadium, the High Court, and All Saints Cathedral. The finish line was set at Rewa Road. Organised jointly by national and state sports bodies, the event employed electronic timing chips for accurate participant tracking.
Prize Money & Closing Ceremony
Winners received Rs 2 lakh , while the first and second runner-up earned Rs 1 lakh and Rs 75,000 respectively. Eleven consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each were also distributed. The event was inaugurated by the Divisional Commissioner and concluded with a formal ceremony attended by senior sports officials.
