Inspirational drama 12th Fail by director Vidhu Vinod Chopra won a national award in an event organized in New Delhi on September 23, 2025. The movie is a true-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and one of the reasons is that people and critics can relate with the movie as it shows how the officer rose to the position of police officer despite being a poor child.
A Message Beyond the Award
Chopra changed his post-win talk with Aaj Tak to a reflection, rather than a celebration. Reading a great passage of the movie, a strong statement, namely, Fear is not outside the darkness, but inside, he pointed out that his work is motivated by adherence to truth. He said he hope that the audience would realize that it is compromises and the lure of convenience that form internal shadows that keep people back.
Clarity Over Noise
Chopra disclosed he knowsingly avoids the clatter of social media, which is controlled by his wife, a film critic called Anupama Chopra. To him, it is not about buzz but clarity of conviction when it comes to storytelling. His only intention is to express truthfulness with the help of cinema allowing the movie to speak up.

Directed by Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, 12th Fail is one of the films that Chopra has been applauded in recent years as one of the most touching movies.
