Russia continues to be the largest importer of Crude Oil to India-Sept 2025

• Top Supplier Status: Russia continued to be the biggest supplier of crude oil in India in September 2025.
• Market Share: The Russian imports comprised 34 percent (approximately a third) of the total crude oil imports in India.

Volume Details:

• Indian imports in total: approx. 4.7 million barrels per day (bpd).
• Russian imports: 1.6 million bpd.
• This was a modicum drop of 160,000 bpd less than the 8 months average of the year.
• Other Major Suppliers: The second biggest suppliers were Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the United States after Russia.
• Main cause behind importation of Russian: Russian crude was the most cost-effective to the Indian refiners with good discounts and good margins.
• Geopolitical Background: India is likely to go on with buying Russian oil as the pressure and tariffs by the U.S. to stop this operation and supply of oil will not produce a difference to the increasing domestic fuel demand; particularly in the season of festivals to come.
