Onam 2025 Kerala Onam 2025 The Athachamayam procession of 2025 prepared the stage of Kerala with a glittering exhibition of tradition, culture and community spirit through the 10-day celebrations. The event took place in Held in Tripunithura , the former court town of the Kochi kingdom, in the sunshine and attracted thousands of visitors who came to enjoy the spectacular mixture of classical art, folk shows, and social issues.
A Celebration of Heritage
The centuries-old royal tradition of Athachamayam is the symbolic entry of the King Mahabali and the avatar of Vamana, which signifies the commencement of Onam. The 2025 edition featured more than 59 art forms such as kathakali, theyyam, kummatti, pulikali, kolkali, margamkali, and kalaripayattu because Kerala has a strong diversity in culture.
Procession Highlights
The parade featured over 300 artists and 50 troupes and was a colorful blend of mythological, folk, and contemporary characters-Mahabali and Vamana, tigers and hunters, kings and even popular movie stars such as Pushpa, Empuran, Rajinikanth, and Kalabhavan Mani. The floats and performances reflected traditional traditions of Kerala and also its changing cultural manifestations.
Social Themes and Inclusivity
The 19 thematic floats of this year included the issues of drug abuse as a way of combining awareness and art. A special pavilion was being established to accommodate differently-abled students and families and was inclusive. Another event that was encouraged by the government is a green Onam, which encouraged people to reduce plastic consumption and help protect the environment.
Music, Performance, and Community Spirit
The parade was accompanied by traditional ensembles such as pandimelam and panchavadyam and spectators danced and sang along. Traditional Kalaripayattu exhibitions using traditional weapons captivated the audience to give a martial flavour to the celebrations. Celebrities and officials have also interacted with the people bringing the message of the festival, to be united and participate in the community.
Crowd Management
It started at Atham Nagar and moved over major cross roads before ending at Government Boys High School Ground. Although it started at around 10:45 am which was a bit late, it took about four hours which were well managed with tight security controls and police coordination.
