The Jal Prahar 2025 Joint Amphibious Exercise held by Indian Navy

Indian Army together with the Indian Navy successfully managed to end the joint amphibious exercise known as Jal Prahar 2025 in the eastern coast of India. The biannual drill, which was conducted during 16-23 September 2025, was meant to enhance the inter-service coordination and operational readiness in amphibious warfare. The work, in two stages, revealed the increasing interdependence of the naval and terrestrial armies in the management of intricate maritime problems.

Overview of the Exercise

The practice of Jal Prahar is among the largest amphibious exercises conducted in India with a frequency of every two years in order to evaluate the capabilities of joint operation. The 2025 version centered on how to plan and carry out amphibious operations on the eastern seaboard. The troops had to practice real-life situations where they moved armies between sea and land on difficult and realistic battlefield conditions.

Harbour Phase Activities

The Visakhapatnam Phase was the Harbour Phase that occurred between 16 and 20 September. At this phase, Army personnel were embarked and introduced into the INS Gharial, which is a Magar-class amphibious warfare vessel. Onboard training, safety measures and orientation drills were also conducted on the soldiers to ensure they were familiar with the operations of the navy. Besides this, sports activities and interactive programs were also held to ensure that there was a sense of camaraderie and joint team spirit among the participants.

Sea Phase Execution

The amphibious landings were tested in the Sea Phase, off Kakinada, 21 to 23 September. This incorporated hard beaching operations, deployment of Landing Craft Assault (LCA) vessels and introduction of BMP amphibious infantry fighting vehicles. These exercises confirmed the current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and optimized joint training procedures in such a way that both services would be able to cooperate in the actual battle scenarios.

Significance of Inter-Service Synergy.

The drill highlighted the significance of interoperability in the case of the Navy and the Army. Communication, understanding, and planning together were critical to mission success. This synergy improves the defence posture of India especially in its eastern coast maritime front that is both tactically important.

Tactical and Technological Improvements.

The utilization of modern amphibious assets was also observed in Jal Prahar 2025 and this showed the expanding capabilities of the Navy to launch massive, land-sea operations. The incorporation of mechanised infantry vehicles in beach operations points to the Indian effort in polishing the technique, enhancing readiness and dealing with the future security challenges in the sea.
