Champa Shashti Celebrated With Devotion Across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi
Champa Shashti, a sacred occasion dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya and revered widely for Nagaradhane (snake worship) , was celebrated with deep devotion throughout Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Wednesday. The day witnessed thousands of devotees participating in grand rituals, chariot processions and traditional offerings at prominent Naga temples across the region.
Massive Devotee Gathering at Kukke Subrahmanya
The most notable celebrations were held at Kukke Subrahmanya Temple , where crowds gathered to witness the Champa Shashti Brahma Rathotsava , one of the region’s largest annual religious events. Two famous chariot processions were conducted— Chikka Ratha and Brahma Ratha , with Utsava Murti of Lord Umamaheshwara placed on the smaller chariot and Lord Subrahmanya seated on the grand one. After the Suvarna Vrushti ritual, the Brahma Ratha was ceremoniously drawn by devotees chanting hymns and offering prayers.
Rituals and Dignitary Presence
Special pujas continued inside the temple’s inner sanctum and at Shashti Katte , marking the spiritual essence of the festival. Karnataka Minister for Transport and Muzrai Ramalinga Reddy , along with MLAs, district officials and temple authorities, took part in the festivities, adding significance to the traditional celebration.
Festival Spirit Across Regional Naga Kshetras
Alongside Kukke, other temples such as Kudupu Ananthapadmanabha Temple near Mangaluru and Muchlakodu Subrahmanya Temple in Udupi also witnessed vibrant Rathotsavas and large pilgrim turnout. The widespread participation across multiple shrines reflects the strong cultural roots of serpent worship, deeply interwoven within coastal Karnataka’s spiritual identity.
