This year’s edition marks the largest participation so far, reflecting the growing global commitment to sustainability-focused teaching, research and institutional management.
Global Leaders and Top Performers
Sweden’s Lund University has achieved the number one position for the first time, earning a perfect score across several sustainability metrics. The University of Toronto , which held the top spot for the past two years, has moved to second place. University College London (UCL) has climbed to the third position, followed by the University of Edinburgh and the University of British Columbia , rounding out the top five global performers.
Top Ten Institutions Worldwide
Other notable institutions in the top ten include the London School of Economics , Imperial College London , UNSW Sydney , McGill University and the University of Manchester . These universities have demonstrated excellence in climate action, responsible governance, social impact and community engagement.
Rising Participation from India and Global Regions
The 2026 rankings feature nearly 2,000 universities from 106 countries . The United States leads with 240 institutions, followed by China (163) and the United Kingdom (109) . India has 103 ranked universities , reflecting significant improvement with 26 new entrants , second only to China’s 49.
