APCRDA Project Office Secures IGBC Net Zero Energy Rating, A First for Indian Government Buildings
In a major milestone for sustainable public infrastructure, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has achieved national distinction after its Project Office at Rayapudi, Amaravati , became the first government building in India to receive the IGBC Net Zero Energy Rating at the design stage .
The recognition was formally conferred during the IGBC Green Building Congress 2025 held at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.
Energy Efficiency at the Core of the Design
The Project Office has been engineered with next-generation energy-saving architecture, achieving an Energy Performance Index (EPI) of 0.85 —making it nearly 15% more efficient than ECBC 2017 benchmarks .
Key sustainability features include:
-
High-efficiency HVAC systems
-
Low-power, smart lighting installations
-
Optimised building envelope for minimal heat gain
A 540 kWp rooftop solar system generates close to 7.88 lakh units annually , meeting nearly 45% of total consumption needs . The remaining energy requirement is sourced from Green Tariff renewable power, maintaining 100% net-zero compliance.
A Model for Future Government Infrastructure
The award was received by Chief Architect and Design Coordinator Sandeep Dixit , symbolising APCRDA’s shift toward climate-smart development in Amaravati. APCRDA Commissioner K. Kanna Babu stated that this accomplishment sets a reference point for government-led construction and strengthens Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to build low-carbon, resource-efficient urban spaces.
Over 2,000 global delegates participated in the three-day IGBC event, featuring innovations in sustainable materials, smart energy systems and green city frameworks.
