Tripura Strengthens Bonds with Its Global Diaspora
Tripura is preparing to host the second edition of the Prabashi Tripurabasi Summit 2025–26 in Agartala, marking an important initiative to reconnect with natives of the state living outside its geographical boundaries. The summit reflects the state government’s evolving approach to inclusive development by recognising the diaspora as a key partner in Tripura’s social, economic and cultural transformation.
Purpose of the Prabashi Tripurabasi Summit
The summit is envisioned as a dedicated platform for Tripurabasi residing across India and abroad to reconnect with their roots. It seeks to revive emotional and cultural bonds while fostering a sense of belonging among people who continue to identify strongly with Tripura despite physical distance. By bringing together professionals, entrepreneurs, academics, artists and social leaders of Tripuri origin, the event promotes dialogue on shared heritage, identity and collective progress.
Role of Tripura Institution for Transformation
The summit is being organised by the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) , the state’s policy think tank. TIFT plays a strategic role in shaping Tripura’s long-term governance and development roadmap. Through the summit, it aims to integrate diaspora knowledge, skills and networks into the state’s development priorities, including education, healthcare, skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Diaspora as a Development Partner
Many Tripurabasi have built successful careers outside the state while maintaining strong cultural and familial ties. The summit recognises this community as a valuable stakeholder capable of contributing expertise, mentorship, investment and global exposure. It aligns with a broader trend where Indian states actively engage their diaspora to mobilise resources and ideas for regional growth.
Platform for Collaboration and Cultural Continuity
Beyond policy engagement, the summit will serve as a space for cultural exchange, networking and collaboration. It reinforces the idea that identity transcends geography and that the Tripurabasi diaspora remains an integral part of Tripura’s development journey.
