Global Peace Prayer Festival to be held in Bhutan in November 2025

 

  • In November 4-19, 2025, a huge global spiritual event, the Global Peace Prayer Festival (GPPF), will be held in the Bhutan capital, Thimphu.

Key Details:

  • Mission: To bring Buddhist leaders and practitioners of all traditions together on a common call to world peace and compassion.
  • Participants: 1000 individuals, comprising both locals and foreigners.
  • Important Moments: The festival will be characterized by prayers of large scale, those rituals which are peculiar to this country, such as the Jabzhi Dhoechog, and a Kalachakra Empowerment by the head monk of Bhutan, His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

Historic Significance:

  • Another historic aspect is that it will have a complete ordination (Gelongma ceremony) of more than 250 Buddhist nuns, an important move towards gender equality within the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition.

  • The event will be accessible to all people and will be available around the world in stream, with translation, so all people will be involved.
