Kolkata to Host 8th International Chair Poetry Festival from 28–30 November 2025
Kolkata is set to reaffirm its cultural legacy as it hosts the 8th edition of the International Chair Poetry Festival , scheduled from 28 to 30 November 2025 . Known for bringing together acclaimed poets from across the world, the festival continues to serve as a vibrant platform for creative exchange, dialogue and literary celebration. Over the years, the event has established Kolkata as an international hub for poetry and multilingual expression.
International Participation and Multilingual Footprint
This edition will welcome poets from thirteen countries , presenting their works in sixteen languages . Renowned voices including Simon Armitage, Susan Rich, Mona Arshi, Madara Gruntmane and Peter Verhelst will join leading Indian poets for readings, discussions and collaborative sessions. The diverse linguistic representation highlights the festival’s aim to promote inclusivity and global cultural understanding.
Venues, Special Events and Cultural Additions
The festival will commence at the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad auditorium. Interactive sessions, conversations and workshops will be held at Cloud Tavern , Samilton Hotel. The concluding event, the signature “Poetry on the Cruise” , will be hosted aboard a vessel on the River Hooghly , offering an atmospheric setting for performances. Folk and fusion music will enhance the opening day, blending artistic forms and enriching the experience.
New Releases and Global Partnerships
Two newly translated poetry titles will be launched, reinforcing the event’s contribution to contemporary literature. The festival enjoys support from several cultural organisations, literary foundations and international embassies, signalling its rising global significance.
