India Unveils Indigenous Hansa-3(NG) Trainer Aircraft

India Launches Indigenous Hansa-3(NG) Trainer Aircraft

India’s aviation sector continues to accelerate its push toward self-reliance with the unveiling of the indigenous Hansa-3(NG) trainer aircraft. During a visit to CSIR–National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) in Bengaluru, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology highlighted the rapid strides in domestic aerospace innovation, aligning with the national goal of strengthening India’s position as a global aviation hub.

Launch of the Hansa-3(NG) Trainer Aircraft

The production-ready Hansa-3(NG) , India’s first all-composite two-seater trainer aircraft, was officially launched to address the growing demand for pilot training. With India projected to require nearly 30,000 pilots over the next twenty years, the aircraft will significantly reduce dependence on imported trainers. An industry partner is setting up a large manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh , with the capacity to build up to 100 aircraft annually , boosting employment and entrepreneurship in aviation manufacturing.

Advances in SARAS Mk-2 and Regional Aviation

CSIR-NAL is also progressing on the development of the SARAS Mk-2 , a 19-seater light transport aircraft designed to support India’s regional connectivity needs. Equipped with a glass cockpit, digital avionics, pressurised cabin and command-by-wire systems, the aircraft is intended for both civilian and defence applications. The inauguration of the Iron Bird Facility will enable complete systems integration and accelerate testing.

High-Altitude Platforms and Safety Technologies

India’s capabilities in unmanned aviation were strengthened with a new manufacturing unit for solar-powered High Altitude Platforms , capable of missions above 20 km . CSIR-NAL’s prototype has already achieved 7.5 km altitude and 10-hour endurance , with a full-scale flight expected in 2027. The Minister also inaugurated NAviMet , adding to indigenous safety systems like DRISHTI and AWOS now deployed at several airports.
