India First Commercial PSLV to Launch Oceansat in 2026

India’s First Commercial PSLV to Launch Oceansat Next Year

India is preparing to enter a new era of space manufacturing as the country’s first commercially built PSLV rocket is set for launch early next year. The mission will place the next-generation Oceansat satellite into orbit, marking a major milestone in the transition toward private-sector–led rocket production and manufacturing.

HAL–L&T Build India’s First Industry-Manufactured PSLV

For the first time, a Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) consortium has independently built the entire PSLV rocket, without ISRO assembling major stages. This achievement highlights India’s long-term vision to shift routine launch vehicle production to industry, allowing ISRO to focus on high-end technologies and deep-space missions. The consortium used ISRO-provided designs while successfully achieving end-to-end integration.

More Launches Expected Under Ongoing Contracts

Industry projections indicate two to three PSLV missions next year, supported by increasing demand from commercial satellite operators. Under a 2022 contract, HAL–L&T will manufacture five PSLV-XL rockets , with the possibility of additional orders as India’s commercial space sector expands. The consortium is also in advanced stages of supplying hardware for future missions.

ISRO’s Strategic Reorientation and Private Sector Strengthening

ISRO’s shift away from large-scale PSLV manufacturing aims to encourage private-sector maturity in essential launch operations. While some complex components initially required technical intervention from ISRO, ongoing collaboration ensured smooth production and quality compliance. This manufacturing model is expected to become the backbone of India’s commercial launch ecosystem.
