In September 2025, Beta Version of Adi Sanskriti was released by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This groundbreaking project is a combination of technology and culture to save the tribal culture, enhance livelihoods, as well as linking artisans to the world markets. It is a significant move towards preserving the indigenous culture and tribal communities empowered economically.
Adi Sanskriti: a Digital Tribal University.
Thought to be the first Digital University in the world that focuses on tribal culture, Adi Sanskriti brings together education, heritage, and business on a single platform. It provides a participative learning experience, a cultural library and a marketplace on the internet. The platform becomes therefore a single stop center of tribal knowledge, art and products.
Three Core Components
The program is designed on three main pillars:
- Adi Vishwavidyalaya (Digital Tribal Art Academy): offers online programs in tribal dance/music/painting/crafts and folklore (45 courses) and is available all over the world.
- Adi Sampada (Socio-Cultural Repository): A digital repository of over 5,000 selected records of over five themes, such as dance, painting, textiles, artefacts, and livelihoods, which guarantee maintenance of cultural tradition.
- Adi Haat (Online Marketplace): Interested in collaboration with TRIFED, this online marketplace helps tribal artisans to directly reach the buyers to enable the sustainable income and expanded reach.
Tribal Research Institutes.
It was created with the assistance of 15 State Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) located in different parts of India, such as Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Odisha and Kerala. Their input is authenticity, diversity, and culture in documentation and computer mapping of tribal artforms.
Government Future and Vision.
The ministry of tribal affairs envisages the Adi Sanskriti to become a complete Tribal digital university. Further growth will be advanced research, certifications, additional digital courses and an enhanced marketplace. This correlates with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision of the government of India of making tribal communities the stakeholders of the Indian digital economy.
Impact
Combining preservation, education, and livelihood, Adi Sanskriti preserves the native traditions and creates new economic opportunities. Continuing on the previous project such as Adi Vaani, an artificial intelligence translator of tribal languages, it helps keep tribal culture alive, real, and close to the world during the digital era.
