Army Service Corps Celebrates 265th Corps Day, Honours Legacy of Military Logistics
The Army Service Corps (ASC) , the oldest logistics formation of the Indian Army, celebrated its 265th Corps Day at the ASC Centre and College in Bengaluru. The event highlighted the Corps’ distinguished history, beginning in 1760, and its transformation into a modern logistics entity supporting India’s military operations across diverse terrains.
Legacy of Service Across Centuries
Since its inception, the ASC has supported every major military campaign involving Indian forces—from early colonial-era expeditions to contemporary high-altitude and counter-insurgency operations. Its responsibilities have diversified from provisioning supplies to managing mechanised transport, fuel, rations, and specialised logistics systems essential for maintaining operational readiness.
Honouring Heroes and Fallen Personnel
The commemorative events included a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Corps War Memorial. The ASC’s distinguished service record includes numerous gallantry awards such as Maha Vir Chakras, Vir Chakras, Shaurya Chakras , and pre-Independence honours like the Military Cross and Distinguished Service Order . These accolades underscore the Corps’ steadfast commitment to national security.
Tribute to Animal Transport Units
A special ceremony at the Animal Transport Memorial acknowledged the historic role of mules, horses, and handlers who enabled logistics in remote regions long before mechanisation. Their contributions remain symbolic of the Corps’ adaptability and perseverance in challenging environments.
