Indore got IGBC Green City Platinum Certification

Indore is the first city in Madhya Pradesh and, in fact, the only three cities in India that have been granted the IGBC Green City Platinum Certification in recognition of its innovation in sustainable urban growth and environmental-friendly city governance

IGBC Green City Certification is about.

 

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a body of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) also assesses cities based on the sustainability parameters, which include water efficiency, energy efficiency, waste management, green cover, e-governance and policy frameworks. The top level of achievement is platinum certification.

 

The Assessment and performance of Indore.

 

Indore went through a six-month evaluation, in the course of which data on various urban development indicators were reviewed by experts at the IGBC. The city stood out for its:

 

  • Water saving and recycling initiatives.
  • State of the art solid waste management, lowering reliance on landfills.
  • E-governance programs that enhanced openness and participation by citizens.
  • Green areas and the increase of the biodiversity.
  • Striving to enhance life and air quality.

 

Importance of the Recognition.

 

Indore is also the second city after Rajkot, Pune, and Pimpri Chinchwad to be listed as one of the 32 Indian cities and zones that are IGBC Platinum. The award highlights the attention paid by Madhya Pradesh to sustainable development and sets Indore as an example of environmentally friendly urban development.

 

IGBC contribution to urban Green Development.

 

IGBC has accredited more than 16,300 buildings that have a total green building area of 14.15 billion sq. ft. in India. Approximately 90 percent of green projects in the country are developed using the framework of the IGBC, and it is the most reliable standard of responsible development regarding the environment.
