APEDA Launches BHARATI Initiative to Boost Agri-Tech Startups and Exports

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has rolled out a new initiative aimed at energising India’s agri-food and agri-tech startup ecosystem, with a clear focus on innovation-driven export growth. The programme seeks to open new global avenues for young entrepreneurs at a time when international trade patterns are rapidly evolving.

BHARATI Initiative: Vision and Objectives

Named BHARATI Bharat’s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement —the initiative is designed to bridge the gap between innovation and international markets. According to APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev , the programme aims to help startups in the agriculture sector become export-ready by providing strategic guidance, market linkages, and exposure to global best practices.

Enabling Global Exposure for Startups

As part of the BHARATI framework, APEDA will identify the top 10 agri-food and agri-tech startups and facilitate their participation on international platforms. This global exposure is expected to help startups connect with overseas buyers, investors, and technology partners, while simultaneously showcasing India’s value-added agricultural and food products to a wider audience.

Resilient Growth in Agri Exports

India’s agricultural exports continue to demonstrate resilience despite global trade uncertainties. APEDA-supported exports registered a growth of around 7 per cent during April–November 2025–26, touching nearly $18.6 billion. In the previous financial year, exports stood at about $28.5 billion. Officials expect total APEDA exports to surpass the $30 billion mark in the current fiscal year, reflecting steady demand for Indian agri-products in global markets.

Announcement at Indusfood 2026

The initiative was announced on the sidelines of Indusfood 2026 , a major global food and beverages exhibition organised by the Trade Promotion Council of India in Greater Noida. The three-day event has attracted participants from over 120 countries, featuring more than 2,200 exhibitors and nearly 15,000 buyers and trade visitors.
