National Library Celebrates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

 
  • The National Library of India , Kolkata, celebrated Rashtriya Ekta Diwas with a special exhibition dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel , the architect of India’s unity. The event paid tribute to Patel’s monumental role in integrating over 500 princely states and shaping the nation’s administrative and institutional framework.
Exhibition Highlights Patel’s Legacy
  • The exhibition, held at S.P.M. Bhasha Bhawan , was inaugurated by Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal , Additional Director General of the BSF Eastern Command , and Prof. Ajay Pratap Singh , Director General of the National Library. Open to the public until 30 November 2025 , the exhibition displays rare archival materials, including letters, photographs, and historical documents illustrating Patel’s efforts in national integration and civil service reform.

Call for Unity, Vigilance, and Integrity

  • In his address, ADG Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal stressed that national unity requires active participation from all citizens , not only political or defence leaders. He cautioned against corruption, apathy, and disunity , calling them long-standing weaknesses that once left India vulnerable to external control. He urged everyone to uphold vigilance, honesty, and social responsibility to preserve the nation’s hard-won integrity.

Preserving India’s Intellectual Heritage

  • Aggarwal also underlined the National Library’s role as the custodian of India’s cultural and intellectual legacy . He stated that safeguarding rare manuscripts and historical records is vital for strengthening national identity and fostering a deeper understanding of India’s journey toward unity and self-reliance. The exhibition’s archival treasures, he said, reflect Patel’s vision of a cohesive, disciplined, and progressive India .

Sardar Patel’s Enduring Influence

  • Prof. Ajay Pratap Singh described Sardar Patel as the Iron Man of India and the chief architect of administrative integration . He praised Patel’s decisive leadership, which turned post-independence challenges into a stable federal structure, laying the foundation for modern governance.
