1. Core Agreement
- Parties: Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministries of Jal Shakti and the Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N), under MeitY.
- Purpose: To collaborate and create a decision-support platform based on Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Purpose: The platform will increase the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM(G)].
2. Significant Characteristics of the Cooperation.
- The platform shall take advantage of superior geospatial technologies to develop a transparent, efficient, and data-driven system in controlling the rural water supply and sanitation.
- It will facilitate mapping of the Rural Piped Water Supply Schemes (RPWSS) using the unique IDs and hence can be monitored at the household level.
- The infrastructure is set to make the system convergent to other rural infrastructure project initiatives.
3. Technical Implementation/support.
- Role of BISAG-N: The institute will be a source of technical know-how, end-to-end, such as:
- Database planning and software development.
- Thematic mapping, map creation and spatial data analysis.
- Data migration and systems integration.
4. Strategic Impact & Alignment
- The project is in line with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan that enables the water and sanitation infrastructure to be integrated with other sectoral assets to allocate resources optimally.
- It contributes to the larger Digital India Vision by leveraging technology to lead to inclusive and sustainable growth in rural India.
- The platform will see a faster growth of infrastructure and service delivery in the country.
