Technology to Management of water efficiently summit 2025 - India push to water security

Seizing the Water Decade.

Interstate water rationing and resource-efficient management are also burning issues to India. The Government of India has responded to these problems by instituting a succession of six Departmental Summits aimed at closing this communication deficit between the ground-level activities and national policy-making activities. One stands out of those, that is Sujalam Bharat Summit in which everything is concentrated on water management. With NITI Aayog as its coordinator and the ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) as the anchor, it aims to get valuable feedbacks by and through different communities and institutions to make quality policies on water.

Technology on Water management workshop.

This initiative is one of the reasons why the Central Water Commission (CWC), recently organized a virtual workshop called Technology of Efficient Water Management. State participation was active in the event with states across the country participating, such as Tamil Nadu or Odisha, even as far as Leh. Participants were representatives of grassroots associations including gram panchayat heads and Water User Associations, and researchers associated with research centres like the national remote sensing centre (NRSC), hyderabad. Shri Atul Jain, Chairman of CWC also acted as the chairman of this workshop as well as Shri Yogesh Paithankar, Member (WP&P) and Ms Archana Verma, AS & Mission Director of the National Water Mission (NWM).

Key Themes and Discussions

The workshop identified a number of measures that could help to save water effectively and conserve it:

  •   Agriculture Efficiency: Enhancement of micro irrigation, use of crop diversification and climate resilience agricultural methods to reduce the use of water.
  •   Modernisation and Automation: Modernization of water plans, modernization of the canal, water leaks, and water quality with the use of remote-sensing and the tool of artificial intelligence.
  • Water Conservation and Accounting: Provision of incentive to the adoption of water efficient household and industrial appliances, storage of soil moisture as recommended by water stress cube and water accounting.

State-Level Innovations

Such states as Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan provided successful stories with the implementation of community-driven models and improved technologies into the local water management. These case studies have shown how decentralised solutions could provide scalable solutions throughout India.

A Holistic Vision

And Chairman Shri Atul Jain brought people to bear in mind that infrastructure is not the only way of real water security. It involves a technological, policy reform and community intervention. The Sujalam Bharat project aims at ensuring the water future of the generations in India, by integrating innovation and local expertise.
