Pakistan and Egypt Restart Bilateral Cooperation After Years of Dormancy
Pakistan and Egypt have formally reopened a stalled bilateral partnership, marking the most substantive engagement between the two nations in more than a decade. The renewed cooperation follows a two-day official visit by Egyptian foreign minister Badr Abdelatty to Islamabad , where discussions centred on strengthening ties across trade, defence, culture, education and diplomacy .
High-Level Talks Restore Strategic Dialogue
Abdelatty held extensive consultations with Pakistan’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister Ishaq Dar. The dialogue covered regional developments including Gaza, Sudan, and Iran’s nuclear programme , while also emphasising the need for regular contact between the two foreign ministries. For the first time since 2010, both nations agreed to revive stalled diplomatic channels to ensure continuity in decision-making.
Revival of Institutional Mechanisms & Economic Push
Dar acknowledged that the Pakistan–Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission had not met in more than 14 years. Both sides will restart formal political consultations in early 2026 , reopening a framework that had gone dormant. To boost trade, Pakistan will share a list of 250 business firms—expanding to 500 within three months —to promote investment matching and market penetration. A Pakistan-Egypt Business Council is also being established, with a bilateral business forum planned for mid-2026 in Cairo .
Defence & Security Cooperation Strengthened
The ministers committed to expanding collaboration in counterterrorism, defence manufacturing and military training . Egypt echoed solidarity with Pakistan’s fight against extremism, highlighting convergence on security priorities and future joint initiatives.
