Date & Significance

• Date of Observation: October 8 th, annually.
• Purpose: The occasion is called the celebration of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and raising awareness among people about its significance in securing the security of the country and its airspace.

Historical Background

• History: Indian Air Force was formally created as an auxiliary air force to the British Royal Air Force on the 8th of October, 1932.
• First Operational Flight: It was on April 1, 1933, that the IAF established the first operational squadron.
• First Combat Action: The Waziristan war against tribal forces was the initial combat action that the IAF was involved in and it displayed its ability and prowess to act courageously.

Modern-Day Observance

• There are grand celebrations on the day, the major one being in the Air Force Station in Hindan.
• The celebration consists of such important characteristics as:
  • An aerial spectacular parade of different IAF planes.
  • A flypast and a parade of various squadrons.
  • The IAF strategic capabilities and technologies were on display.
• It is a commemoration of all the IAF personnel and their sacrifice and determination.
