Exercise Bright Star 2025-India Joins Exercise in Egypt

India has sent more than 700 Armed Forces personnel to participate in Exercise Bright Star 2025 , which is being hosted by Egypt from August 28 to September 10 . This is the 19th edition of the drill and one of the largest multinational military exercises in the Middle East and North Africa. A total of 43 countries are participating, including 13 sending troops and 30 observers , making this a clear example of India's emerging presence in the area of global defence cooperation.

Background

Bright Star, an annual training exercise that began in 1980, was launched as a US-Egypt bilateral exercise and has developed into a major multilateral exercise . It is held every two years under the US Central Command and will improve partner nation security, stability, and interoperability .

India's Role

The Indian contribution consists of Army, Navy and Air Force and is assisted by Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQIDS). Key activities include:

  • Live fire training of operational capabilities.
  • Command Post Exercises simulating multi-national planning.
  • Training modules regarding the tactics of modern warfare.
  • Expert talks on cyber warfare, logistics, and communication.

Strategic Significance

Tri-services synergy , inter-operability with forces from other nations gets a boost from participation in Exercise. It would complement India's SAGAR vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and gain experience in multi-national peacekeeping and coalition operations. It also further strengthens defence relations with Egypt, the US and other countries .

Defence Diplomacy and Scale

With over 7,900 troops involved, the exercise re-emphasizes the importance of military diplomacy and collective security . Fully hosted by Egypt, Bright Star 2025 is a testament to India's military professionalism and dedication to regional peace and stability .
