Sanskaar Shaala Initiative: Ethics, Culture and Inclusive Education in Assam
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday inaugurated Sanskaar Shaala , a value-based education programme for children aged 4 to 14 years , at the Lohia Lions Auditorium in Guwahati . The initiative seeks to nurture moral discipline, Indian cultural values and social responsibility among children, complementing formal schooling with ethical and character-building inputs at an early stage of life.
Values as the Foundation of Society
Addressing the gathering, the Governor emphasised that goodwill and positive intent are central to India’s cultural tradition. Quoting the Sanskrit maxim “Sanskarah hi gunanam moolam” (values are the root of virtues), he noted that while education equips individuals with knowledge and skills, values shape conduct and character. According to him, a strong ethical foundation is essential for building harmonious families, communities and a responsible society.
Relevance of Ancient Indian Wisdom
Highlighting the continuing relevance of India’s civilisational heritage, Acharya referred to classical texts such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita. He said these scriptures offer timeless lessons on truth, duty and righteousness. In an era driven by technology and competition, he stressed, progress must be balanced with compassion, discipline and moral responsibility.
Community Role and National Vision
The Governor described Sanskaar Shaala as a meaningful effort to preserve and transmit India’s ethical and cultural legacy. He observed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , India is advancing rapidly while reaffirming its civilisational values. He also appreciated the Marwari community for its tradition of ethics, charity and social service, urging other organisations to undertake similar initiatives.
Focus on Inclusive Education
Later, Acharya attended the golden jubilee celebrations of the Guwahati Blind High School at Basistha. He said societal progress is reflected in the dignity and opportunities extended to persons with disabilities, praising the school’s use of modern technology and the achievements of its alumni.
