Madhya Pradesh Signs MoU with BHASHINI to Enable Multilingual AI Governance

Madhya Pradesh Partners with BHASHINI to Expand Multilingual AI-Based Governance

The Madhya Pradesh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Digital India BHASHINI Division to integrate multilingual and voice-based artificial intelligence tools into state digital platforms. The partnership marks a major step towards inclusive, citizen-centric governance by enabling public services to be delivered in Indian languages and through voice-first interfaces.

Why in News?

Madhya Pradesh has formally entered into an MoU with the Digital India BHASHINI Division to deploy AI-powered language technologies across government portals and applications, strengthening last-mile delivery and accessibility of public services.

MoU Signed at Regional AI Impact Conference 2026

The agreement was signed at the Madhya Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 held in Bhopal. The conference was organised by the state’s Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission. It brought together policymakers, startups, industry leaders, academic institutions and central government agencies to deliberate on responsible and inclusive use of AI in governance.

State Vision for Citizen-Centric AI Governance

Inaugurating the conference, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to technology-enabled, people-first governance. He announced that the state is preparing to introduce a State AI Policy in mission mode, signalling a structured and long-term roadmap for AI adoption. He stressed that multilingual platforms such as BHASHINI are essential to ensure AI-led governance reaches citizens across linguistic, cultural and regional divides.

Role of BHASHINI in the Collaboration

Under the MoU, BHASHINI will integrate its translation APIs and AI-driven language tools into Madhya Pradesh’s digital platforms. This will allow citizens to access government services, information and grievance mechanisms in multiple Indian languages. A key focus of the partnership is voice-first AI , which is particularly relevant for rural communities, elderly citizens and users with limited digital literacy.

Strengthening Accessibility and Last-Mile Delivery

The collaboration aims to remove language as a barrier in accessing government schemes and services. By embedding Indian languages into digital public infrastructure, the initiative aligns with BHASHINI’s national mandate of making linguistic diversity a strength of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). Officials said the partnership would enhance inclusivity, transparency and trust in digital governance.
