Government Launches TEAM Initiative to Boost MSME E-Commerce Participation

The Government of India has launched the Trade Enablement and Marketing (TEAM) Initiative , a new sub-scheme under the RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) programme, aimed at expanding the digital footprint of micro and small enterprises. With a budget outlay of ₹277.35 crore for 2024–2027 , the Central Sector Scheme is designed to strengthen MSMEs’ access to online marketplaces by providing digital infrastructure, onboarding support and targeted capacity-building.

Linkage with ONDC to Simplify Digital Commerce

A major component of the TEAM Initiative is its integration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) —a government-backed, interoperable digital commerce framework. Through ONDC, MSMEs can access pre-built storefronts, digital payment systems, logistics partners and cataloguing tools. This reduces the need for enterprises to create independent e-commerce platforms, thereby lowering costs and technical barriers for small businesses.

Digital Onboarding and Enterprise Profiling

The dedicated TEAM portal offers seamless MSME registration while collecting detailed business profiles to match enterprises with Seller Network Participants (SNPs) . The system supports catalogue management, order processing and continuous digital handholding, ensuring that enterprises can effectively participate in India’s growing online retail ecosystem.

Capacity-Building and Inclusive Outreach

The initiative emphasises digital literacy and business capability enhancement through workshops, training modules and advisory sessions. Designed to benefit five lakh micro and small enterprises , the scheme also targets 50% participation from women-owned units , reinforcing goals of inclusive and gender-balanced entrepreneurship.
