A Young Voice that Captured the Nation
Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte , a nine-year-old singing prodigy from Lunglei district, Mizoram , has emerged as a national symbol of youthful patriotism and cultural pride. Her soul-stirring rendition of “Vande Mataram” resonated across the country, earning her the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar , India’s highest civilian award for children. Early Life and Musical Foundations
Born on June 9, 2016 , Esther displayed a natural affinity for music from the age of three. Growing up in Mizoram’s rich tradition of choral and church-based music , she began performing at church gatherings and community events. These early experiences helped shape her vocal discipline, emotional expression and stage confidence. Strong family support and encouragement from her local community played a vital role in nurturing her talent.
Viral Breakthrough and National Recognition
Esther’s rise to national prominence began in 2020 , when a video of her singing “Vande Mataram” , composed by A R Rahman , went viral. The clip gained widespread attention after being shared by Mizoram’s former Chief Minister Zoramthanga and later by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , transforming her from a local talent into a national sensation.
