Historical Significance:
- On 28th September 2025 , the Indian Army held its 199 th Gunners Day .
- The day is marked by the raising of the 5(Bombay) Mountain Battery in the year 1827 .
- The unit is the only active unit to have served continuously since its formation, and is considered one of the oldest active artillery units.
Purpose and Observance:
- Gunners Day is one of the celebrations of the biography, service, and sacrifice of the Regiment of Artillery .
- The Regiment is known to be one of the most celebrated fighting arms of the Indian Army.
- Tribute was paid to fallen heroes by a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial in New Delhi .
- Lt Gen Adosh Kumar , who was the Director General Artillery and Senior Colonel Commandant presided over the ceremony, along with the veterans and current serving members .
Leadership and Vision:
- General Upendra Dwivedi Chief of the Army offered greetings and best wishes to the Regiment of all ranks, veterans and families.
- The leadership reinforced the modernization and indigenization process that was taking place in the Regiment.
- These projects are in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) which is to boost operational capacity by producing defense domestically.
Modernization Efforts:
- The Regiment of Artillery is currently in the process of modernizing its systems and platforms to be combat ready.
- There is a focus on adopting new technology and increasing local production of the defense sector.
